NEW TiO2 PIGMENT SLURRIES HELP REDUCE PAINT VOC's

06/28/2000 | Susan E. Alderton | Chief Financial Officer | (281) 423-3332

Formulators of water-based paints can now further reduce VOC levels in their coatings with a new family of very-low-VOC TiO2 pigment slurry grades from Kronos, Inc The new slurry grades contain no amines, mercury or formaldehyde doner compounds.

The four new grades are;

  • KRONOS ® 4310-- A high durability, high gloss grade.
  • KRONOS ® 4102-- A universal grade.
  • KRONOS ® 4020-- An interior/exterior enamel grade.

Kronos new slurry grades constitute a family of low-VOC, amine-free TiO2 pigments available to paint and coatings formulators, according to Joe Maas, Kronos' U.S. marketing director. Use of these new grades will minimize another potential source of VOC's in paints and coatings - following the industry trend toward continued reduction of VOC's

"This new family of slurries will bring paint and coatings formulators closer to their ultimate goal - complete removal of VOC sources," Mr. Maas said.

Because they're available in slurry form, the new grades assure easier processing and lower processing costs. Formulators can realize further savings by selecting a universal grade, reducing the need for inventory. The slurries also provide the same outstanding optical properties as their dry powder counterparts.
